Assistant Accountant seek jobs australia 2024 Our client is looking for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join their collaborative, high-performing Finance team on permanent basis.

The business has experienced significant growth in recent years and is looking to build on its existing finance structures and processes to extract improvements in financial control and accuracy of financial statements.

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Director, you will play a pivotal part in building and maintaining strong relationships internally and externally, and be responsible for the following key finance functions:

Accounts payable functions

  • Maintain all accounts payable functions, including entering accounts payable invoices to XERO;
  • Good understanding of Payroll and GST (being able to check compliance on supplier invoices to ensure ATO compliance);
  • Work closely with the Finance Director, CFO and operating team to ensure accurate GL coding and approval of invoices;
  • Maintain a working capital schedule; and
  • Complete monthly bank reconciliations, employee expense claims and management accounts.


  • Manage the payroll system;
  • Process monthly payroll; and
  • Understand and keep up to date with payroll and superannuation legislation.

Assistant Accountant functions

  • Review the Profit and Loss and Balance sheet monthly for each company (2 entities) to ensure accuracy;
  • Assist with monthly reporting (generating various reports in PDF and Excel format for the Finance Director);
  • Set up new accounts and sub-categories in the GL to adapt to new and evolving reporting requirements;
  • Maintain prepayment schedules and ensure monthly journals are entered in the GL accurately and on time;
  • Manage the bi-year end accruals process (with supporting documentation and schedules for audit purposes);
  • Assist with year-end audit queries;
  • Maintain a fixed asset register and depreciation schedule;
  • Preparation and lodgement of BAS returns and GST reconciliations; and
  • Assist with various GL reconciliations.

About You

2+ years demonstrated experience as an Assistant Accountant;
XERO experience required;
Task oriented and able to manage and prioritise workload to meet deadlines;
Excellent attention to detail;
Analytical skills, being able to identify solutions and think outside the box;
A passionate communicator and ability to go above and beyond; and
Intermediate MS Office Suite experience, Excel included.
